A 36-year-old entrepreneur has been arrested by the Cyber Crime Unit of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) due to accusations of non-consensual distribution of intimate images and online sexual exploitation.
The accused, Joshua Kojo Anane Boateng, who lives in East Legon, Accra, was arrested on May 6, 2026, during a coordinated intelligence operation involving both the Cyber Crime Unit and the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI).
In a media briefing on Tuesday, May 12, CID Director-General Commissioner of Police Lydia Yaako Donkor stated that investigations reveal the suspect operated a Telegram platform named “VIP Sleep Fetish 2025″.
She claimed that the suspect utilised a substance known as alprazolam, commonly referred to as Xanax, to allegedly sedate unsuspecting women before sexually assaulting them, recording these acts, and disseminating the videos online without their consent.
According to her, additional investigations indicate that the suspect often visited nightclubs, where he allegedly sought out victims, drugged them, and perpetrated similar offences before sharing the content online.
At the time of the arrest, law enforcement recovered numerous items, including two iPhones, a feature phone, a memory card, a Seagate external hard drive, a MacBook laptop, an iSafe device, and empty sachets believed to have contained alprazolam and midazolam.
The Police Service reported that the electronic devices have been secured for forensic examination, while the sachets will be analysed by the Food and Drugs Authority to ascertain their contents and classification.
Commissioner Donkor confirmed that the suspect has been brought before the court and that investigations are still ongoing.
The Ghana Police Service has reiterated its commitment to addressing cyber-enabled sexual exploitation and is encouraging the public to report such incidents to the relevant authorities.
