Portugal defender Nuno Mendes has welcomed the possibility of Cristiano Ronaldo returning to the national team, insisting the veteran forward would be received with open arms.
Mendes said the squad would be happy to have Ronaldo back, while stressing that his own priority remains contributing to Portugal’s success on the pitch.
“Any player is welcome, obviously. We are happy with the results. I am happy and if Chris returns, we are here to receive him with open arms, whether it’s Cristiano or any other player,” Mendes said.
The Paris Saint-Germain defender also played down speculation surrounding Ronaldo’s future with the national team, saying he remains focused on his own responsibilities.
“I focus on my work, on playing football and helping the national team,” he added.
Mendes has been an important part of Portugal’s squad and said he is pleased with his continued involvement and the team’s recent results.
“I am very happy to play all the games and for the victories,” he said.
