John Boadu elected NPP National Chairman

John Boadu has been elected National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), securing victory in the party’s national executive elections held at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi on Saturday, October 3, 2026.

The 56-year-old former General Secretary emerged victorious in a four-candidate contest, defeating former National Chairman Paul Afoko, former Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko and former Greater Accra Regional Chairman Sammy Crabbe.

His victory was met with celebrations at the congress grounds, where supporters expressed excitement as the results were announced.

Boadu’s election followed a last-minute alliance with Crabbe, who announced on Saturday that he was joining forces with the former General Secretary and urged his supporters to vote for him.

The chairmanship election was one of nine national executive contests held during the NPP’s National Delegates Conference, which brought together more than 7,000 delegates from across the country.

The elections followed the consideration and approval of proposed amendments to the party’s constitution, including changes relating to the position of party leader while the NPP is in opposition.

Boadu, who served as the NPP’s General Secretary from 2018 to 2022, is expected to lead efforts to reorganise the party, strengthen its structures and prepare it for the 2028 general elections.
