Police arrest 3 suspected kidnappers in Northern Region

The Northern Regional Police Command has arrested three suspected kidnappers in connection with the abduction of Ayuba Sumiya Mawudu, also known as Haruna, at Dobini Bunban near Yendi in the Northern Region.

The suspects, identified as 32-year-old Mahumudu Abdulai, 32-year-old Ganiu Sumaila and 28-year-old Abdulai Salam, were arrested at different locations in Sang in the Mion District on September 29, 2026.

According to the Police, preliminary investigations indicate that the victim was abducted on September 25 by four armed men who attacked him and his brother at their residence.

The assailants subsequently contacted the victim’s family and demanded GH¢100,000 as ransom for his release.

However, the victim managed to escape from his captors and was assisted by some farmers to safety at Sambu, where he was taken to a clinic for medical attention.

Police officers later proceeded to the health facility and engaged the victim as part of investigations into the incident.

The victim told investigators that he had been taken to an undisclosed location and kept under guard by armed men before escaping.

He subsequently identified all three arrested suspects from photographs shown to him by the Police.

Further investigations have also established that the suspects may be linked to other robbery incidents recorded in the area.

The three suspects remain in Police custody and are assisting with investigations.

The Northern Regional Police Command says efforts are ongoing to arrest the remaining accomplices and establish the full circumstances surrounding the abduction.
