Manchester City have rejected the findings of the Premier League Commission, describing the opinion published on Tuesday as “disappointing and surprising” as the club prepares to pursue further legal and regulatory challenges.
In a strongly worded statement, City maintained that they are innocent of the accusations brought against them by the Premier League and insisted that substantial evidence exists to support the club’s position.
The club said it would remain “relentless” and, where necessary, proactive in pursuing all appropriate avenues available to it.
Manchester City also confirmed that the Premier League process remains ongoing, with significant elements of the proceedings yet to be completed.
The club said it will now pursue the appeal options available to it, arguing that the Commission’s opinion contains what it considers to be material errors of law, principle and fact.
City further described the opinion as “unsafe” and said it intends to challenge the findings through the appropriate channels.
The club also highlighted the length of the proceedings, noting that it has respected due process throughout the eight-year process.
According to City, it did so on the expectation that the Premier League Board and Executive would operate as an independent, impartial and fair-minded regulator, free from partisan influence.
The club did not provide further details on the specific grounds of its appeal, citing restrictions on what it can publicly disclose while the legal process continues.
“Manchester City FC will now pursue the appeal avenues open to it,” the statement said.
The club added that it is “obviously restricted” in what it can say about the matter until all future proceedings have been completed.
