The New Patriotic Party (NPP) will hold a simulation of its national elections at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Tuesday, September 29, ahead of the actual elections on October 3.
The exercise will be carried out together with the Electoral Commission (EC) and the Ghana Police Service. Its main purpose is to test the election arrangements and identify any problems that need to be fixed before election day.
Chairman of the NPP National Elections Committee, Frederick Opare Ansah, said the simulation will allow the three institutions to go through the election process and correct any issues they may find.
“Together with those two institutions, we will all go to the Baba Yara Sports Stadium and simulate what could happen on Saturday,” he said.
Speaking in an interview on Sunday, September 27, Mr Opare Ansah said the committee would have Wednesday, Thursday and Friday to fix any problems identified during the simulation.
The committee will also meet the EC and representatives of all the aspirants at the stadium on Friday. They will use the meeting to explain the election procedures and make sure everyone understands how the process will work.
“We are doing all this to ensure that on Saturday, when we go, nobody has any surprises. There’s nothing new that all the stakeholders would see in what we have to do,” Opare Ansah said.
The NPP is expected to elect its national officers on October 3. A total of 45 aspirants are contesting various positions in the elections.
