The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has confirmed that its officers attempted to arrest the Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, as part of an ongoing investigation.
EOCO said the MP had earlier been invited twice in February 2026 to assist with the investigation but failed to honour both invitations.
The Office said it later took lawful steps to secure his attendance, resulting in the attempted arrest.
In a statement, EOCO explained that the arrest was not completed after the situation escalated and officers concluded that continuing the operation could pose a risk to public safety.
“EOCO wishes to clarify that its officers, acting in the lawful discharge of their statutory responsibilities, attempted to effect the arrest of Hon. Baffour today, 23 September 2026, in connection with an ongoing investigation,” the Office stated.
EOCO said the investigation is still ongoing and that it would examine video footage and other circumstances surrounding the incident before deciding on its next course of action.
“The Office further wishes to assure the public that the investigation remains active,” it said, adding that it remained committed to discharging its statutory responsibilities while respecting the Constitution, the rule of law and parliamentary privileges.
