The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Volta Region has accused the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of deliberately targeting its structures following the demolition of part of the fence wall of the party’s Regional Office in Ho.
The NPP says the demolition, which affected its regional office near the Ho Sports Stadium, raises questions about the manner in which the government’s ongoing infrastructure works are being carried out.
James Geh, Ho Central Constituency Communications Officer of the NPP, said the party was not against development projects but believed the action against its structures was deliberate.
According to him, the latest incident follows an earlier dispute involving the NPP Ho Central Constituency Office in the area, further fuelling concerns within the party over the treatment of its properties.
Mr Geh said the NPP would also pursue major infrastructure projects if it returned to government, citing a proposed dual-carriage road from Noguera Junction through the Ho Technical University area.
The NDC, however, has rejected the allegation of political targeting, saying the demolition formed part of an exercise to clear structures within a designated road reservation.
Volta Regional Communications Officer of the NDC, Sorkpa Kafui Agbleze, said the exercise was connected to road construction and opening works under the government’s Big Push infrastructure programme.
He said the NPP Regional Office fence had been identified and marked for removal since the previous year, with the Ho Municipal Assembly reportedly communicating the matter to the party.
The NDC also said other structures, including portions of an AME Zion Church property and private buildings, had been affected because they fell within the road corridor.
