The Upper West Regional Police Command has confirmed that 192 wraps of a substance seized from two suspects in Wa have tested positive for cocaine.
The Regional Police Commander, DCOP Francis Yiribaare, told the media in Wa that forensic tests conducted in collaboration with the Narcotics Control Commission confirmed the substance as cocaine.
The two suspects are currently on remand and are expected to reappear before the court on October 9, 2026.
The first suspect, identified only as SK, was arrested on September 6, 2026, at the ESP Bus Terminal with the suspected cocaine.
DCOP Yiribaare described the seizure as the first of its kind in the Upper West Region, but said the Police are investigating whether it could indicate a new trend in drug trafficking in the area.
He said the Police are also intensifying what he described as “foot intelligence” to identify and arrest other people connected to the drug trade.
The Regional Police Commander further warned owners of commercial vehicles against allowing their vehicles to be used to transport narcotics.
“If your vehicle is likely to be connected, we can apply for forfeiture of such vehicles used as carriers,” he warned, adding “vehicle owners should be very careful because the law will catch up with them.”
He stressed that drug trafficking is a serious offence and warned that anyone found culpable would face the full force of the law.
