Angry youths lynched a 22-year-old man after he allegedly murdered a farmer and assaulted a chief in Aburokyire, a farming community located in Offinso within the Ashanti Region.
The suspect, known only as Awineme, is accused of killing Osei Kwabena, the caretaker farmer of the chief, in a bush on Saturday, September 12, 2026.
Speaking to the media, a resident stated that the suspect returned home following the incident and attacked the chief, causing severe machete injuries.
“He came home drenched in blood. He announced that he had killed Osei Kwabena, so when the chief tried to understand the situation, he started attacking him,” the resident recounted.
“The chief, Nana Osei Bonsu, is also battling for his life at St. Patrick Hospital in Offinso, and we have been told doctors may amputate one of his hands due to the injuries.”
The witness further noted that the suspect attempted to assault another individual, which provoked the anger of some local youths.
“All attempts to stop him proved futile, so they used lethal means, with some resorting to beating him with sticks.”
The suspect reportedly succumbed to injuries sustained during the mob attack.
The bodies of both dead persons have been taken to the morgue, and police have initiated an investigation into the incident.
