Ghanaian FA Cup champions Nations FC have been eliminated from the 2026/27 TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup after drawing 1-1 with FC Diarra in the second leg of their preliminary-round tie.
The match was played at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, with Nations FC needing a victory to overturn their 1-0 defeat from the first leg.
The Ghanaian side started the game with determination and enjoyed long periods of possession as they searched for the goals needed to progress to the next round.
However, despite controlling much of the game and creating several opportunities, Nations FC struggled to find the finishing touch in front of goal.
Their situation became even more difficult when FC Diarra scored the opening goal. The visitors’ strike increased their aggregate advantage and put Nations FC under more pressure.
The Ghanaian side responded with an equaliser and continued to push forward in search of the second goal.
Nations FC created further chances as they tried to complete the comeback, but FC Diarra defended well and prevented the hosts from finding the decisive goal.
The match ended 1-1, giving FC Diarra a 2-1 aggregate victory and sending the Malian side through to the next stage of the competition.
The result marks a disappointing end to Nations FC’s first-ever CAF Confederation Cup campaign. The club had earned its place in the continental competition after winning the MTN FA Cup and had hoped to make a strong impression on the African stage.
However, their inability to overturn the first-leg deficit ultimately proved costly.
