Former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has held discussions with the national executives of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) on ways to improve healthcare delivery in Ghana.
The meeting focused on key issues affecting the health sector, with particular attention to the training of health professionals, infrastructure and the welfare of nurses and midwives.
The engagement provided an opportunity for the leadership of the GRNMA to share their experiences from the frontline and present recommendations on how some of the challenges facing the sector could be addressed.
Among the issues discussed were the need to improve health education and training to prepare healthcare professionals for the demands of the sector.
The meeting also considered ways to strengthen health infrastructure and create better working conditions for frontline workers.
Dr Bawumia stressed the importance of listening to healthcare professionals when developing policies for the sector.
He noted that their direct experience with patients and the challenges within healthcare facilities gives them valuable knowledge that can help shape practical solutions.
The discussions also highlighted the need for stronger cooperation between policymakers and healthcare professionals.
Such collaboration, according to the engagement, is important to ensure that policies take into account both the needs of patients and the welfare of the workers who provide essential services.
