The Ghana Police Service has arrested 68 suspects and seized 835 digital devices in a coordinated operation with Interpol aimed at tackling cybercrime.
Director-General of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), COP Lydia Yaako Donkor, disclosed that the operation also identified 108 victims, traced losses of more than US$450,000 and resulted in the recovery of a significant portion of the stolen funds.
COP Donkor disclosed this on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, at the launch of the 2026 National Cyber Security Awareness Month for the Ghana Police Service and the wider law enforcement community.
She said the operation demonstrated the importance of intelligence-led policing and international cooperation in tackling increasingly sophisticated and cross-border cybercrime networks.
“In one coordinated Interpol operation, the CID arrested 68 suspects, seized 835 devices, identified 108 victims, traced more than $450,000 in losses and made significant recovery of funds,” she said.
COP Donkor said the Police Service was strengthening its ability to investigate technology-related crimes through improved digital forensics, cyber intelligence and virtual asset investigations.
She also stressed the need for stronger collaboration with local and international law enforcement agencies to track suspects, preserve digital evidence and recover illicit funds.
“Cybercrime may be borderless, but criminals are not beyond reach,” she said.
She further disclosed that a separate joint operation by the Cyber Security Authority and the CID in a suburb near Tema in 2025 resulted in the arrest of 39 suspects and the seizure of several digital devices from a suspected cyber fraud hub.
COP Donkor assured that the Police Service would continue to enhance its investigative capacity and partnerships to effectively respond to evolving cybercrime threats.
