President John Dramani Mahama has dissolved the governing boards of nine state institutions with immediate effect, the Presidency has announced.
The affected institutions are Prestea Sankofa Gold Limited, Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company Limited (BOST), Volta Aluminium Company Limited (VALCO), Consolidated Bank Ghana Limited (CBG), Ghana Post Company Limited, Road Maintenance Trust Fund, TDC Ghana Limited, Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), and the National Sports Authority (NSA).
A statement issued on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, by the Spokesperson to the President and Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, confirmed the decision.
The Presidency did not give a reason for the dissolution.
The move comes amid increased scrutiny of the performance of state-owned enterprises following the release of the 2025 State Ownership Report by the State Interests and Governance Authority (SIGA).
Sector Ministers have been directed to take all necessary steps, in line with the relevant laws and governing instruments, to implement the dissolution. New boards are expected to be appointed in due course.
The latest directive follows President Mahama’s earlier decision to dissolve statutory boards, corporations, commissions and councils appointed by the previous administration, in accordance with the Presidential (Transition) Act, 2012 (Act 845).
Under that directive, individuals appointed to such boards by former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo or a former Minister of State ceased to hold office on January 7, 2025, when President Mahama was sworn into office.
The Presidency later clarified that the directive did not affect institutions created directly by the Constitution.
Until new boards are appointed, management of the affected institutions had been directed to seek clearance from the Chief of Staff before taking major decisions as part of interim arrangements.
The latest dissolution is expected to pave the way for the appointment of new governing boards in accordance with the laws governing each institution.
President Mahama had previously expressed appreciation to outgoing board members for their service to the country.
