Barcelona makes new €60m bid for Manchester City star Rodri

Barcelona have stepped up their efforts to sign Manchester City midfielder Rodri after making a new offer worth €60 million plus add-ons.

The Catalan club’s latest proposal comes after City rejected their initial offer of around €45 million. Manchester City is reportedly holding out for €80 million for the Spanish midfielder, although negotiations between the two clubs are continuing.

Barcelona is understood to be confident that an agreement can be reached, with performance-related bonuses potentially helping to close the gap between the two clubs’ valuations.

Rodri is also reportedly keen on returning to Spain and has given Barcelona encouragement in their pursuit of him.

The midfielder is in the final year of his Manchester City contract and has not agreed to an extension, increasing the possibility of a transfer this summer.

The 30-year-old has been one of Manchester City’s most important players since joining the club from Atlético Madrid in 2019.

He played a key role in City’s success under Pep Guardiola, including their historic Champions League triumph in the 2022/23 season.

Rodri’s experience and ability to control games from midfield have made him an attractive target for Barcelona, who are looking to strengthen the position and add another experienced player to their squad.

Reports also suggest that Barcelona have already reached an understanding with the player over personal terms, although the two clubs still need to agree on the transfer fee.

Manchester City, meanwhile, is preparing for the possibility of losing their star midfielder and has identified potential replacements, including Chelsea’s Enzo Fernández.
