A court has sentenced two men to 20 years in prison each for human trafficking after they were found guilty of deceiving 11 Nigerian nationals and forcing them into cyber fraud activities in Ghana.
The Tema Regional Police Command disclosed that the convictions followed investigations into the rescue of the victims from a house at Sebrepor, a community in Tema, in August 2023.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, the police identified the convicts as 29-year-old Kingsley Ndifon and 25-year-old Emmanuel Akong.
The two were arrested after the Afienya District Police Command received a distress call about individuals allegedly being held against their will at a residential facility.
According to the police, the suspects lured the Nigerian nationals to Ghana with promises of securing employment opportunities. However, upon their arrival, the victims were allegedly subjected to exploitation and forced to engage in cyber fraud operations.
The rescue operation led to the victims being freed from the location, while police commenced investigations into the circumstances surrounding their recruitment, movement and treatment.
The Tema Regional Police Command said the successful prosecution of the two men demonstrates the commitment of security agencies to ensuring that perpetrators of human trafficking face justice.
The police also encouraged members of the public to report suspicious activities involving the movement, confinement or exploitation of individuals to the appropriate authorities to aid early intervention and rescue operations.
