Several firefighters have reportedly been injured after part of a building collapsed while they were battling a major fire at a rubber recycling warehouse and factory in Tema.
The firefighters were responding to the blaze on Tuesday morning when the building’s roof reportedly caved in, trapping and injuring some of the personnel.
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has not yet confirmed the number of injured officers or the severity of their injuries.
Despite the collapse, firefighters remained at the scene to carry out salvage and overhaul operations to fully extinguish the fire and prevent it from reigniting.
The fire caused extensive damage to the warehouse and factory, although the full extent of the destruction is yet to be assessed.
The cause of the blaze remains unknown. The GNFS says investigations will begin once the scene is declared safe, and more details will be provided as they become available.
