Fulham have reached an agreement in principle with Real Madrid for the signing of highly-rated Spanish forward Gonzalo García in a deal worth up to €42 million, marking one of the biggest transfers in the club’s history.
The Premier League side will pay a fixed fee of €40 million, with an additional €2 million in performance-related bonuses.
As part of the agreement, Real Madrid will retain a 30 per cent sell-on clause, ensuring the Spanish giants benefit financially from any future transfer involving the player.
The deal also includes a matching rights clause, allowing Real Madrid to match any future offer should Fulham decide to sell García later in his career.
The transfer is expected to be completed once the remaining formalities, including medical examinations and the signing of final documents, are concluded.
García joins Fulham after progressing through Real Madrid’s renowned youth academy, where he developed into one of the club’s brightest attacking prospects.
The young striker impressed with his goalscoring ability, movement and technical quality while representing Real Madrid Castilla and the club’s youth teams.
His performances attracted interest from several clubs across Europe, but Fulham moved quickly to secure his signature as they continue strengthening their squad ahead of the new Premier League season.
Reports indicate that Fulham manager Álvaro Arbeloa played a significant role in convincing the player to make the move to Craven Cottage.
Arbeloa, who has close ties with Real Madrid after spending many years at the club as both a player and coach, is believed to have identified García as a key addition to his attacking options.
