The National Chairman aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Paul Afoko, has called upon members of the Tertiary Students Confederacy Network (TESCON) to establish unity as the cornerstone of the party’s efforts to regain power in 2028.
During his address at the Blue Dialogue event organised by the TESCON at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), themed “Energizing the Base for Victory 2028,” Mr. Afoko emphasised that no political party can attain electoral success if it is fragmented.
In his remarks to students and party supporters, he asserted that unity is the NPP’s most significant asset and urged the youth wing of the party to reject factionalism and collaborate towards a shared objective.
“My fellow patriots, every successful political party is founded on a unified purpose. No political party can secure victory while being divided internally,” he stated.
He warned TESCON members against engaging in internal disputes, reminding them that they are all part of one political family.
“I hope and pray that among you young individuals present, you are not engaging in such behavior. Do not turn against one another. We are one party,” he expressed.
Mr. Afoko reminded the audience that the NPP has historically achieved its most significant successes when its members have set aside their differences and united around the party’s common ideals.
“History shows us that the NPP is at its strongest when we stand united and at its weakest when we allow differences to create divisions. We can have differing opinions, but those should not lead to division. Our tradition has always embraced diverse perspectives, various personalities, and challenging discussions,” he remarked.
He further clarified that while differing opinions are a vital aspect of democracy, they should never foster animosity within the party.
“Democracy thrives on disagreement; however, disagreement must never become hostility. The NPP belongs to all its members. It belongs to the founding generation who sacrificed for this party, it belongs to polling station executives, regional leaders, Members of Parliament, party leadership and the young men and women of TESCON who represent the future,” he said.
Calling for reconciliation within the party, the National Chairman hopeful said rebuilding trust among members must take precedence over factional interests.
“The first task before us is to heal old wounds, rebuild trust and restore a sense of family within our ranks. Our focus should not be about who belongs to which faction,” he added.
