Liverpool boss Andoni Iraola confirms need for new winger

Liverpool head coach Andoni Iraola has revealed that the club is looking to add another winger to its squad as part of its preparations for the new season.

The Spaniard, who recently took charge of Liverpool, admitted that strengthening the wide areas is one of the club’s priorities following the departure of key attacking players, including long-serving forward Mohamed Salah.

However, Iraola was careful not to discuss specific transfer targets when questioned about possible signings.

“I cannot talk about players from other teams,” the Liverpool boss said.

“It is clear we need a player on the wing. I wouldn’t say to replace Mo Salah, but we need one more winger.”

Iraola explained that transfer decisions must be made carefully, with the focus on bringing in players who can improve the team rather than simply adding numbers to the squad.

“We have to take decisions, sometimes it is hard. Sometimes there is a player we can sign to improve as a team. Those decisions we are analysing,” he added.

The comments come as Liverpool continue their rebuilding process under Iraola, who was appointed as the club’s new head coach after an impressive spell at Bournemouth.

He guided the Cherries to their highest-ever Premier League finish and European qualification before earning the opportunity to lead the Reds at Anfield.

Liverpool have already made moves in the transfer market, but Iraola believes further additions are needed to ensure the squad is ready to compete across domestic and European competitions.

The club has already brought in winger Victor Muñoz and defender Jérémy Jacquet, but more reinforcements are expected.

Known for his high-energy and attacking style of football, Iraola wants Liverpool to remain competitive while building a squad capable of challenging for major trophies.

His search for another winger highlights the importance of adding pace, creativity and goals to the team’s attack.
