Police in Bole in the Savannah Region have arrested two suspects and rejected an alleged GH¢300,000 bribe following the seizure of a quantity of suspected cannabis during an anti-narcotics operation.
The suspects were apprehended after police officers intercepted a vehicle believed to be transporting the illicit substance within the Bole enclave as part of ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking in the area.
During a search of the vehicle, officers reportedly discovered several parcels of compressed substances suspected to be cannabis concealed in the vehicle.
The suspected narcotics were immediately seized as evidence while the occupants were taken into custody for questioning.
According to preliminary investigations, the suspects allegedly offered the officers GH¢300,000 in an attempt to secure their release and prevent further investigations into the matter.
The officers, however, rejected the alleged bribe and proceeded with the arrest, a move that has been widely commended as a demonstration of professionalism and integrity within the Ghana Police Service.
The suspects remain in police custody assisting with investigations as authorities work to determine the source and intended destination of the consignment, as well as identify other persons who may be connected to the operation.
The seized substances are expected to undergo forensic examination to confirm their composition, after which the suspects are likely to be arraigned before court to face charges related to the possession and transportation of narcotic substances, as well as the attempted bribery of public officers.
