Bantama NPP crisis deepens as aggrieve member invokes curses

The ongoing dispute over the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) constituency executive election in Bantama has taken a fresh turn after a video showing a man invoking traditional deities over the controversy went viral on social media.

The footage has attracted widespread public attention and intensified discussions surrounding the already tense internal contest in the constituency.

In the video, the man, who identified himself as Kwame Poku, is seen performing a traditional ritual by breaking an egg and pouring schnapps while calling on well-known traditional deities, including Antoa and Akonadi.

During the ritual, he invoked curses against anyone who allegedly defies a reported court injunction linked to the disputed constituency election.

The video has since generated mixed reactions, with some expressing concern about the growing tensions surrounding the party’s internal electoral process.

The latest development comes just a day after violence disrupted the NPP’s constituency executive election at the Kumasi Cultural Centre in the Bantama constituency.

The election, which was reportedly the subject of a court injunction, descended into chaos after unidentified individuals allegedly stormed the venue while voting was underway.

According to reports, the attackers destroyed ballot boxes and ballot papers and assaulted election officials supervising the exercise.

One election official sustained injury during the incident and was rushed to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for medical treatment.

The disturbance forced the suspension of the election and prompted an immediate response from the Ghana Police Service.

The Ashanti Regional Police Command subsequently arrested three suspects in connection with the violence and declared the polling centre a crime scene to allow investigators
