Chairman Wontumi promises unity and reform in NPP

National Chairman hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has pledged to unite the party, strengthen its grassroots base and deepen diaspora involvement as part of efforts to return the party to power in the 2028 general elections.

Speaking during a strategic engagement with the Asia and Pacific Caucus of the NPP’s external branches on July 10, 2026, Wontumi outlined his vision for the party and stressed the importance of building stronger ties with members living abroad.

The meeting brought together party executives, members and supporters from across Asia and the Pacific to discuss ways of strengthening the NPP’s external branches and aligning them with the party’s long-term electoral strategy.

Addressing participants, Wontumi praised the commitment of members in the diaspora, saying they have played a vital role in promoting the NPP’s values beyond Ghana.

According to Wontumi, the NPP’s external branches should not only be seen as fundraising platforms but also as strategic partners in shaping policy, mobilising voters and promoting the party’s agenda internationally.

Expressing confidence in his leadership ambitions, Wontumi said he is ready to lead the party and restore its fortunes.
“I am built for this battle and fully prepared to lead our party back to power. My focus is to unite the party, energise our grassroots and secure victory in 2028,” he stated.

On party discipline and reconciliation, Wontumi said while the NPP must remain firm in enforcing its rules, it should also create room for healing and unity.

He added that sanctions imposed on some members had served their purpose and encouraged the party to pursue reconciliation where appropriate.

He also disclosed plans to personally engage former NPP presidential aspirant Kennedy Agyapong to address his concerns, stressing that dialogue would be important for the party’s future.

The National Chairman aspirant further hinted at possible reforms to the party’s delegates system, saying wider consultations would be held to determine whether expanding participation in the election of party executives would benefit the NPP.

Members of the Asia-Pacific Caucus welcomed the engagement, describing it as timely and reaffirming their commitment to mobilising support for the party abroad.
