Zoomlion Ghana Limited has pledged its support for the nationwide clean-up exercise announced by government following the recent flooding incidents that affected several communities across the country, particularly in the Greater Accra Region.
The waste management company said it was committed to partnering government agencies, Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs), and local communities to restore sanitation and reduce the risk of future flooding.
The support follows President John Dramani Mahama’s directive to local assemblies to identify and remove structures obstructing waterways and major drainage channels as part of emergency flood mitigation measures.
Speaking on the initiative, officials of the sanitation company stressed that flood prevention requires a collective effort from both authorities and residents.
“Flooding is not only a natural occurrence but also a sanitation issue. Keeping drains free from waste and ensuring proper waste disposal are essential in preventing such disasters,” the company stated.
The company indicated that it would deploy personnel and equipment to support desilting exercises, refuse evacuation and public education campaigns in affected communities.
According to the company, indiscriminate dumping of waste into drains continues to be one of the major causes of flooding in urban centres.
“We remain committed to supporting national efforts aimed at improving sanitation and protecting lives and property from the devastating impact of floods,” the statement added.
The government’s planned nationwide clean-up exercise is expected to involve local assemblies, security agencies, sanitation service providers and community groups in an effort to improve environmental cleanliness and reduce flood risks across the country.
