E/R: 26-year-old woman found dead in container shop

A 26-year-old woman has been found dead in a container shop in the Effiduase Airport community of the New Juaben North Municipality in the Eastern Region.

Her mother was also found in an unconscious state, while a 12-year-old girl was left in a critical condition.

The deceased, identified as Freda Agyeiwaa Benson, had spent the night with her mother, Leticia Bamfoa, and a 12-year-old girl identified only as Juliet in the same container shop.

According to family members, the three had been preparing food in front of the container shop on Friday evening ahead of a relative’s wedding ceremony scheduled for the weekend.

After completing the preparations, they retired to sleep inside the shop.

However, tragedy struck the following morning when repeated knocks on the door went unanswered, raising concern among neighbours and relatives.

The deceased’s fiancé, Kofi Boakye, said that after several unsuccessful attempts to get a response, neighbours and family members forced open the door and found the three victims lying inside.

Freda and her mother were reportedly unconscious, while the 12-year-old girl was still conscious but in a very weak condition and was said to be vomiting blood.

The victims were immediately rushed to the Eastern Regional Hospital, where medical personnel pronounced Freda dead on arrival.

Her mother and the young girl were admitted for emergency treatment and remain on admission, with the girl’s condition reported to be critical.

Mr. Boakye disclosed that preliminary laboratory examinations have ruled out food poisoning, which was initially suspected because the victims had been preparing food before the incident.

He indicated that doctors have informed the family that further investigations, including an autopsy on the deceased, will be conducted to establish the exact cause of death.

While the allegations have fueled speculation within the community, no evidence has yet been presented linking the land dispute to the incident, and authorities have not confirmed any connection.

The family is yet to lodge a formal complaint with the police.

Nevertheless, medical examinations, including the autopsy, are expected to provide investigators with crucial information to determine what led to the woman’s death and the collapse of the two survivors.

Authorities are expected to intensify investigations in the coming days as they await the outcome of the post-mortem examination and medical reports on the two surviving victims.

The police have not announced any arrests, and the exact cause of the incident remains unknown.
