The bodies of two people believed to have died during the recent floods have been recovered at Adakope, near Weija, in the Weija Gbawe Municipality of the Greater Accra Region.

The bodies were found on the evening of Thursday, July 2. The Presiding Member of the Weija-Gbawe Municipal Assembly, Wilfred Ayitey Blankson, confirmed the incident, saying the victims are believed to have been carried away by the floodwaters.

The discovery has raised fresh concerns about the recurring flooding in parts of the municipality, where heavy rains continue to destroy property and put lives at risk.

Mr. Blankson, who also serves as the Assembly’s Presiding Member, has appealed to the Ministry of Local Government to urgently provide financial support to the Assembly to help tackle the persistent flooding problems in the area.

Meanwhile, the Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has announced that the government will begin distributing relief items to flood-affected communities across the country from Saturday, July 4, as part of efforts to support victims of the recent heavy rains.
