The family of a 17-year-old Senior High School (SHS) graduate, David Atidoglo Kito, is calling for a full police investigation into his disappearance at Domeabra in the Obuasi East Municipality of the Ashanti Region, including scrutiny of a local pastor he had reportedly been staying with.
The Obuasi District Police Crime Officer, ASP Emmanuel Adjei, has confirmed the case, with investigations currently underway to trace the whereabouts of the missing teenager.
According to the father of the missing boy, Emmanuel Kwesi Adonu, he received a phone call on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at about 9:00 p.m. from Pastor Maxwell Asamoah of the Era of Charis Church, asking whether David had returned home in Old Edubiase in the Adansi North District.
He said the pastor later explained that he had sent the teenager to switch on the church lights, but he never returned.
“He called me around 9 p.m. and asked whether David had come home. I said no. Then he told me he had sent him to go and switch on the church lights, but he never came back,” the father, Emmanuel Kwesi Adonu, said.
The family says they are disturbed by what they describe as inconsistencies in the pastor’s account, particularly the decision to send the teenager alone on the assignment.
“We are not satisfied with how the story is being told. Normally, such tasks are not done by one person alone. We want the police to properly investigate the pastor and everyone involved,” a family source said.
The family has therefore appealed to the police to thoroughly interrogate the pastor as part of efforts to establish what happened to the missing boy.
For his part, Pastor Maxwell Asamoah confirmed that David was sent to the church to switch on the lights but did not return.
“I asked him to go and switch on the church lights, but he did not return. I immediately raised the alarm through the community information centre and later reported the matter to the police,” the pastor said.
The pastor added that he took immediate steps to alert residents and security authorities after the teenager failed to return.
Meanwhile, police say investigations are ongoing as search efforts continue to locate the missing 17-year-old.
