A 54-year-old security guard has been placed in police custody after admitting guilt to attempted sexual assault involving a 14-year-old boy in the Ashanti Region.
The Nsuta Circuit Court, under the leadership of Simon Nkatiah Gagah, issued this order on Thursday (26 June).
The defendant, Mustapha Hamidu, faced charges after the prosecution, led by Assistant Superintendent of Police Samuel Awuah Mamaful, presented allegations of grooming and assault.
The court was informed that the victim, who is the nephew of complainant Abdul Ganiu from Saboline-Ejura, had been visiting Hamidu’s residence to watch videos on a mobile phone.
On 11 June, Hamidu allegedly told the boy that evil spirits were pursuing him and enticed him into a bedroom for a “spiritual cleansing”.
Prosecutors stated that he provided the minor with a black powdered substance mixed with water, instructed him to undress and lie down, and attempted anal penetration but did not complete the act.
A second incident took place on 18 June, during school hours. The court was informed that Hamidu concealed the boy under a tarpaulin when the complainant and the boy’s mother arrived searching for him.
The boy later emerged, and Hamidu fled the scene. He was subsequently apprehended.
Police reported that a search of his home yielded a spray and a wrapped quantity of black powdered substance, which was confiscated as evidence.
Dr. Brefio John Boateng from Ejura Government Hospital examined the victim, and the medical report indicated no physical injuries, bruising, or abnormalities to the rectum or anal sphincter.
The court instructed the prosecution to revise the charges to include a count of kidnapping concerning the alleged concealment of the minor.
The case has been adjourned to 9 July for further proceedings.
