Police summon Kwadwo Safo Akofena over shooting incident involving Adwoa Safo

The Greater Accra Regional Police Command has summoned Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena to assist with investigations into a shooting incident that left former Dome-Kwabenya MP, Sarah Adwoa Safo, injured at Kwabenya on Sunday, June 21.

The development was disclosed by the Director of Public Affairs of the Greater Accra Regional Police Command, Superintendent Juliana Obeng, who said Akofena has been invited to report to the Regional Command to aid ongoing investigations.

“The Ghana Police Service has invited Mr Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena to assist with investigations into a shooting incident,” Superintendent Obeng stated.

According to the police, preliminary investigations indicate that officers from the National Operations Directorate and the Intelligence Directorate responded to a distress call at a residence in Kwabenya where a ceremony was being held.

Police said the event was taking place at the residence of Mr. Tamakloe Safo Jehoshaphat, also known as Akofena, when Adwoa Safo reportedly arrived and sought access to the premises but was denied entry.

“Upon arrival, it was established that a ceremony was being held at the residence of Mr Tamakloe Safo Jehoshaphat alias Akofena, when Adwoa Safo reportedly arrived and requested access to the premises but was denied entry,” Superintendent Obeng explained.

The police further stated that armed private security personnel at the residence allegedly discharged firearms during the incident, resulting in injuries to the former legislator and damage to her vehicle.

Adwoa Safo reportedly sustained a gunshot injury to her left ear and has since been receiving medical treatment. Police say her condition is stable and she continues to be monitored by medical personnel.

As part of the investigation, six private security guards have been arrested and detained.

A search conducted by police led to the retrieval of five pump-action guns, one Taurus pistol loaded with seven rounds of 9mm ammunition, an additional magazine containing five rounds of ammunition, and communication equipment.

Superintendent Obeng stressed that police would not hesitate to invite any person relevant to the investigation.

“Anyone required to assist investigations will be summoned, and those found culpable will face the full rigours of the law.”

The damaged vehicle belonging to the former MP has been retained for forensic examination as investigators work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the shooting.

Police have urged the public to refrain from speculation and allow investigators to complete their work, assuring Ghanaians that a thorough and transparent investigation is underway.
