Assembly Member for the Adevukope Electoral Area in the Ketu North Municipality, Johnson Dotsey Mensah has reported a suspected grave robbery to the Weta Police Station.
According to the report, Mensah received information at about 6:30 a.m. on June 10 that unknown individuals had allegedly broken into the Adevukope Cemetery and tampered with the graves of two recently deceased persons namely Esi Havor Deku, 67, and Akakpo Agbobli, 93.
The two had been buried three weeks and one month earlier, respectively.
The suspects are alleged to have exhumed and stolen the remains of Madam Deku, while an apparent attempt to remove the body of Mr. Agbobli was unsuccessful.
Following the report, the District Crime Officer, ASP Emmanuel Habada, accompanied by the complainant, visited the cemetery, located a few metres from the Adevukope community.
At the scene, they discovered that Madam Deku’s grave had been damaged. Her coffin had been opened, and her body was missing.
Pieces of cloth believed to belong to the deceased were found at the site.
Mr. Agbobli’s grave was also found to have been disturbed, although his coffin remained intact.
Police have since launched an investigation into the incident.
