A/R: Fuel tanker driver burnt to death in fiery crash

A fuel tanker driver lost his life after his vehicle overturned and burst into flames at Adubinso in the Ashanti Region, destroying several roadside shops and leaving another person with severe injuries.

The driver, identified as Abass Toure, was a resident of Adubinso in the Afigya Kwabre South Municipality. According to eyewitnesses, he died instantly when the tanker caught fire.

Residents said the tanker was travelling from the Edwinase area towards Adubinso when the driver reportedly lost control while trying to park by the roadside.

The vehicle overturned and quickly went up in flames.

A mate who was travelling with the driver suffered serious burns in the incident and is currently receiving treatment at a health facility.

Confirming the incident, Mamponteng Fire Commander DOII Akua Brago said the Ghana National Fire Service received a distress call at 12:05 pm and arrived at the scene at 12:25 pm.

She said firefighters managed to bring the fire under control and stopped it from spreading to nearby properties.

The fire, however, caused significant damage. Seven container shops along the roadside were destroyed, while a Ford vehicle parked near a house was also burnt.

Local sources said the body of the deceased is expected to be buried in accordance with Islamic tradition.

The tragic incident has left residents of Adubinso in shock and mourning as the community comes to terms with the sudden loss of one of its members.
