Argentina receives positive injury news before world cup

Argentina have received encouraging news on the injury front ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with all key players currently expected to be available for the team’s opening match against Algeria on June 16.

Head coach Lionel Scaloni has been closely monitoring the fitness of several members of his squad during the final stages of preparation for the tournament.

While a number of players are dealing with minor injuries, reports indicate that none of them is likely to miss the start of Argentina’s World Cup campaign.

The biggest concern has been goalkeeper Emiliano “Dibu” Martínez, who suffered a small fracture in a finger on his left hand.

The Aston Villa shot-stopper is expected to rest over the coming days and may not feature in Argentina’s warm-up matches. However, medical staff remain confident that he will recover in time for the clash against Algeria.

Captain Lionel Messi is also being carefully managed after picking up a minor muscle issue. The eight-time Ballon d’Or winner is unlikely to play in the friendly against Honduras as a precaution, but he is expected to be fit and ready when the World Cup begins.

Midfielder Leandro Paredes has also eased fears over his condition. Initial reports suggested a possible muscle tear, but further assessments revealed only a strong muscle contracture and minor discomfort. As a result, his participation in the tournament is not under threat.

There is more positive news for Argentina, with Nicolás González and Nahuel Molina both nearing full fitness after recovering from muscle injuries.

Young midfielder Nicolás Paz is also expected to be available after avoiding any serious damage following a knee knock.

Defender Gonzalo Montiel remains in recovery from a muscle tear, prompting Scaloni to bring Agustín Giay and Nicolás Capaldo into the squad as cover during preparations.

The injury updates will come as a relief to Argentina supporters, who are hoping to see the reigning world champions successfully defend the title they won in Qatar in 2022.
