The Inspector-General of Police’s Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team (CVET) has arrested seven suspects in connection with a vehicle theft syndicate operating in the Eastern Region following an intelligence-led operation at Asamankese.
The arrests followed a complaint lodged on May 25, 2026, concerning the theft of an unregistered blue Hyundai Elantra at Nkawkaw in the Eastern Region.
Police investigators subsequently tracked the stolen vehicle to a hideout at Roman Down, a suburb of Asamankese, where the suspects were rounded up during a coordinated operation involving officers from the Police Intelligence Directorate (PID).
The suspects have been identified as Acheampong Otuo Kofi, also known as “Levels,” 28; Kpachen Ebenezer, 26; Fianko Isaac, alias “Yaw,” 35; Besah Elizabeth, 24; David Kudalor, 28; Enoch Acheampong, 38; and Solomon Odei, 35.
Police said two additional stolen vehicles, a Hyundai Elantra and a Hyundai Sonata, were also retrieved from the suspects during the operation, bringing the total number of recovered vehicles to three.
The vehicles have since been impounded for further forensic examination and chassis verification.
Investigators believe the suspects formed part of a well-organised network allegedly involved in tracking, stealing and concealing vehicles in parts of the Eastern Region.
Reports indicate some members of the syndicate may have played specialised roles, including hot-wiring vehicles and facilitating documentation processes to disguise stolen cars.
All seven suspects are currently in police custody assisting with investigations. Authorities say efforts are ongoing to trace additional stolen vehicles believed to be linked to the syndicate and to identify possible accomplices operating in other parts of the country.
The Ghana Police Service has meanwhile appealed to the public to volunteer credible information on suspected car theft or carjacking syndicates within their communities to aid ongoing investigations and clamp down on organised vehicle-related crimes.
