A driver has been arrested by the Central Regional Police Command after police allegedly discovered 14 boxes of shotgun ammunition hidden in his vehicle during a midnight intelligence-led operation at the Green Field Plantation snap checkpoint in the Central Region.
The suspect, identified as Francis Ampomah, was arrested on Tuesday, May 27, 2026, at about 12:30 a.m. while driving a Toyota Voxy with registration number GT 9748-26 from Accra towards Assin Fosu.
According to police sources, officers on duty intercepted the vehicle during a routine snap-check operation after receiving intelligence reports.
A thorough search of the vehicle reportedly uncovered 14 yellow and brown boxes containing shotgun cartridges concealed in the car.
Police say the suspect failed to provide lawful documentation or authority covering the transportation and possession of the ammunition at the time of arrest.
The exhibits were immediately seized for evidential purposes while the driver was taken into custody for further interrogation.
The Central Regional Police Command has since launched investigations to determine the source of the ammunition, its intended destination, and whether other individuals may be connected to the suspected illegal transport operation.
Police have assured the public that efforts are ongoing to clamp down on the unlawful possession and transportation of arms and ammunition, urging citizens to volunteer credible information to support security agencies in combating crime.
