Harry Maguire reacts to shock England world cup snub

England defender Harry Maguire has been left out of Thomas Tuchel’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, in one of the biggest selection shocks ahead of the tournament in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

The Manchester United centre-back expressed deep disappointment after learning of the decision, saying he was “shocked and gutted” by the omission.

Maguire also revealed he had believed he would play an important role for England this summer, pointing to what he described as a strong individual season at club level.

“I was confident I could have played a major part this summer for my country after the season I’ve had,” he said. “I’ve been left gutted by the decision. I wish the players all the best.”

Reports indicate Tuchel has made several bold calls in shaping his final 26-man squad, prioritising tactical balance, mobility, and team chemistry over experience in some cases.

Alongside Maguire, other high-profile players such as Phil Foden and Cole Palmer have also been left out of the squad, underlining the scale of the overhaul.

Maguire, 33, has been a long-standing figure in the England setup, earning over 60 caps and featuring in multiple major tournaments, including the 2018 and 2022 World Cups. He has also been a key presence during England’s recent international campaigns.

According to multiple reports, Tuchel personally informed the omitted players before the official squad announcement, a move aimed at managing the fallout from his controversial selections.
