Former Presidential Advisor on Health, Dr. Anthony Nsiah Asare, has strongly defended the Agenda 111 hospital project, insisting that it remains a critical national priority that should not be sidelined in favour of other infrastructure initiatives such as 24-hour market developments.
He argued that both projects serve different national needs, warning against attempts to downplay the importance of healthcare infrastructure.
“You cannot build 24-hour markets in every district and say Agenda 111 is unimportant,” he said.
Dr. Nsiah Asare stressed that Agenda 111 is designed to significantly improve access to quality healthcare across the country, especially in underserved and rural communities where medical facilities remain inadequate.
He described the project as one of the most ambitious health infrastructure programmes in Ghana’s history, noting that it is aimed at strengthening the country’s healthcare delivery system and reducing pressure on existing hospitals.
He further emphasised that the initiative should not be politicised, adding that its success depends on continuity and national commitment rather than partisan debate.
“We should not politicise Agenda 111 because it is meant to serve every Ghanaian,” he stated.
According to him, while economic initiatives such as 24-hour markets are important for job creation and trade expansion, healthcare remains a fundamental national priority because of its direct impact on human life.
