Mbappé insists athletes should speak on national issues

French football star Kylian Mbappé has once again spoken openly about politics in France, insisting   that footballers should not remain silent on important national issues affecting society.

Speaking in an interview with Vanity Fair, the France captain said athletes are citizens first before being footballers and should have the freedom to express their opinions on matters that could shape the future of their country.

Mbappé explained that many people believe famous and wealthy footballers are disconnected from the struggles of ordinary citizens, but he disagrees with that idea.

According to him, political decisions can affect everyone, regardless of their social status.

The Real Madrid forward expressed concern over the possible rise of far-right politics in France, saying he understands the serious consequences such a development could have for the country.

Although he did not directly mention specific political groups in his comments, many observers linked his remarks to the growing influence of the far-right National Rally party led by Marine Le Pen.

This is not the first time Mbappé has spoken about social and political matters.

Over the years, he has used his platform to speak against racism, discrimination and political extremism.

The French superstar has become one of the most influential voices in sports beyond football.

The debate comes at a time when political tensions in France remain high ahead of future elections, with issues such as immigration, economic hardship and national identity dominating public discussions.
