The Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has accused the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) of what he calls “extra judicial harassment” after the arrest of former National Food and Buffer Stock Company CEO, Abdul-Wahab Hanan Aludiba, and his wife, Faiza Seidu Wuni.
In a strongly worded statement released on Wednesday, 5 May 2026, Afenyo-Markin criticised what he described as the unfair arrest and detention of the couple, who are currently being held by EOCO.
He said their arrest happened after earlier charges against them and others had already been dropped in court. According to him, this raises serious concerns about fairness and proper legal process.
Afenyo-Markin explained that the couple had been in court for about a year facing charges he believes were weak and not well-founded.
He noted that their lawyers had challenged these charges during court proceedings.
He also claimed that the Attorney General tried to add new witness statements without the court’s approval, but this was rejected after the defence team, led by former Attorney General Godfred Yeboah Dame, objected.
After the charges were dropped, Afenyo-Markin said EOCO should have continued investigations instead of re-arresting the couple.
He further alleged that Mr. Aludiba and his wife were later picked up again on unclear charges and were not granted bail, even though a court had previously granted them bail.
The Minority Leader also claimed that their lawyers were not allowed to see them for several hours while they were in EOCO custody.
Describing the situation as “shameful, reprehensible and unworthy of Ghana’s democracy,” he accused state institutions of being used to target political opponents.
He also suggested that the re-arrest may be part of an effort to support a government anti-corruption campaign known as ORAL.
Afenyo-Markin criticised EOCO’s leadership and called on the agency to follow proper legal procedures. He also demanded the immediate release of the couple.
“This impunity must stop,” he said, stressing that law enforcement agencies should not be used to harass people for political reasons.
