GFA bans Hohoe United FC until 2029/30 season over league withdrawal

The Disciplinary Committee of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has handed Hohoe United FC a lengthy suspension after the club withdrew from the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League.

The club has been banned from all GFA competitions until the 2029/2030 season and will only return to action in Division Two under the Greater Accra Regional Football Association after serving its suspension.

According to a statement released by GFA Communications on Friday, May 1, 2026, the decision followed Hohoe United’s unilateral withdrawal from the ongoing league.

The statement said the club’s action breached Article 13 of the Ghana Premier League Regulations, adding that the Disciplinary Committee found them guilty after they officially informed the GFA on April 1, 2026, that they were pulling out and subsequently failed to honour their remaining matches.

As part of the sanctions, all registered players of Hohoe United FC have been granted free agent status by the GFA’s Players’ Status Committee, subject only to conditions tied to their previous transfers.

The club has also been ordered to refund all support received from the GFA for the 2025/26 season, including financial assistance and equipment.

The GFA stressed that the suspension does not remove any outstanding financial obligations the club owes to the association or its members.

In line with GFA regulations, Hohoe United FC has three days from the date of notification to appeal the decision if it wishes to challenge the ruling.
