Chelsea players have been given a short break following their recent FA Cup success, with midfielder Enzo Fernández among those taking the opportunity to travel to Madrid.
The Argentine international was granted permission by Chelsea to attend a tennis event in the Spanish capital alongside teammates Marc Cucurella and João Pedro. The trio are there with their partners ahead of Fernandez’s compatriot Francisco Cerundolo taking on Alexander Blockx in the round of 16 on Tuesday evening.
This travel to Madrid comes amid his rumored links to Real Madrid this Summer. Last month, the Argentine international found himself embroiled in a controversy after confessing he would ‘love’ to reside in the Spanish capital. “I’d like to live in Spain, I really like Madrid; it reminds me of Buenos Aires,” he told Avirales YouTube channel. “Players live where they want, I’d live in Madrid.

The brief getaway comes after interim coach McFarlane rewarded the squad with a couple of days off following an important victory over Leeds United.
Chelsea’s win against Leeds in the FA Cup marked a positive moment in what has been a challenging season. The Blues delivered a composed performance, showing attacking intent and improved organisation. The result not only secured their progress in the competition but also lifted morale within the squad.
In that match, players like Enzo Fernández played a key role in controlling the tempo while scoring the only goal in the game, while the defence showed greater discipline compared to earlier fixtures.
The win over Leeds has therefore added belief that the team can compete and possibly win the trophy as they take on Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City on May 16, at Wembley.
Following the demanding schedule, interim boss McFarlane decided it was the right time to give players a mental and physical break. Allowing them to travel and relax is part of efforts to keep the squad fresh ahead of upcoming crucial matches.
