A 47 -year-old woman has been crushed to death after a concrete pillar collapsed on her at Akyem Asuom in the Kwaebibirim District in Eastern Region.

Cecilia Amankwah was drying cloths on a line tied to the pillar when she met her untimely death on Wednesday morning.

An eyewitness narrating the events that led to her death said she was in her room when she heard a loud sound. She quickly rushed to the scene and saw that a fallen pillar had crushed the head of the victim.

Some children who were with her in the house when the incident occurred started raising alarm which attracted neighbours in the community to the scene.

The neighbours managed to pull the deceased from the weight of the pillar with blood all over her.

She was then rushed to the hospital but pronounced dead on arrival.

Residents who were shocked and saddened by her death could not control their tears as they trooped to the house to mourn her.

Preliminary investigation has established that the mason renovating the victim’s house failed to adhere to engineering ethics in erecting the concrete pillar.

The deceased’s body has been conveyed to the morgue pending further investigation by police.
