We’ll broadcast our meeting with EC despite rejection – NDC

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has said it will ensure that its meeting with the Electoral Commission (EC) regarding the 2024 provisional voters register is broadcast live.

This comes after the EC rejected a request from the leadership of the NDC for a live broadcast of an upcoming meeting.

The meeting is to discuss findings and observations concerning the Provisional Voters Register (PVR) for the upcoming December 7 general elections.

The party highlighted severe discrepancies discovered during the 2024 voter exhibition exercise.

According to the NDC, it identified the discrepancies from an analysis of the Provisional Voter Register given to them by the commission, and registers exhibited at the centres.

Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, the NDC General Secretary, in a letter to the EC, stated that a live broadcast of the meeting would ensure transparency.

However, in its response, the commission said although it is ready to discuss the concerns raised about the PVR, there will not be a need to broadcast the proceedings.

It said this is because the discrepancies identified by the NDC are not new.

In a Facebook post, the NDC’s Director of Elections, Dr Omane Boamah, stressed that the party representatives attending the meeting would ensure it is streamed live for public transparency.

He warned the EC against any attempts to manipulate the upcoming election in favour of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), cautioning that such actions would not be accepted.

“This deliberate refusal flies in the face of Transparency: Transparency is cardinal to the attainment of Free, Fair and Peaceful elections.

“The EC cannot escape public scrutiny and forensic audit of the voters register!”

Dr Boamah added, “We’ve all observed the LOUD SILENCE of the ruling NPP notwithstanding all these anomalies.

“It cannot be lost on us that the NPP stands to benefit illegally from the overt and covert manipulation of the register and the electoral process.”
