Residents of Ntsin in Cape Coast woke up to panic and thick smoke in the early hours of Tuesday, March 3, after a fire tore through part of a residential building.
The blaze, which began around 4 a.m., destroyed four rooms on the top floor of a single-storey house and caused partial damage to sections of the ground floor.
Personal belongings were reduced to ashes as neighbours rushed out in fear, unsure of how far the flames would spread.
One person, identified by residents as Auntie Ama, sustained injuries in the incident. She was taken to Ewim Hospital for treatment before firefighters arrived at the scene. Her current condition has not yet been made public.
Personnel from the Cape Coast Metropolitan Fire Station responded swiftly to a distress call and contained the flames, preventing the building’s complete destruction.
Additional crews from the University of Cape Coast Fire Station and the Regional Headquarters joined efforts to bring the situation under control.
Central Regional Commander ACFOI Attigah Mensah confirmed that investigations are underway to establish the cause of the fire.
