University of Ghana issues COVID-19 alert amid new cases
The University of Ghana has urged students, staff, and nearby residents to take extra precautions following a recent spike in COVID-19 cases in and around its campus.
In a notice dated June 23, 2025, the University’s Health Services Directorate confirmed that both suspected and confirmed cases have been identified, prompting the reactivation of its COVID-19 Response Protocols.
Health facilities on campus have resumed screening procedures, and the situation is being closely monitored.
“We’re not trying to cause panic, but we need to act quickly and responsibly. The virus hasn’t gone away, and we have to do our part to prevent another major outbreak,” a staff member from the Health Services Directorate said.
Students and staff were strongly advised to follow safety guidelines, including proper use of face masks, frequent handwashing or use of alcohol-based sanitisers, and maintaining a physical distance of at least one meter wherever possible.
The university also discouraged large gatherings and reminded the community to ensure good ventilation in enclosed spaces like lecture halls and offices.
Anyone experiencing flu-like symptoms is urged to stay home and seek medical attention immediately.
With lectures ongoing and campus life in full swing, the university is aiming to balance caution with continuity.
Administrators further asked visitors to the university to comply with all health and safety measures to reduce the risk of further transmission.
The university says it will provide regular updates as more information becomes available.
