Baba Jamal wins NDC Ayawaso East primary amid allegations of vote-buying

High Commissioner to Nigeria, Baba Jamal Mohammed Ahmed, has won the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary primary in the Ayawaso East Constituency, positioning him to represent the party in the March 3 by-election.

The primary, which attracted significant attention, was held amid reports of alleged inducement and vote-buying involving some aspirants.

Earlier on Saturday, the NDC’s national leadership condemned incidents of bribery and inducement at several polling stations.

In a statement signed by General Secretary Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, the party announced an immediate investigation into the allegations and warned that any candidate found guilty would face swift disciplinary action.

The statement also cautioned that future violations could lead to drastic measures, including possible cancellation of elections.

Despite the controversies, voting proceeded under tight supervision by party officials and security personnel, with delegates turning out to cast their ballots.

Baba Jamal’s victory positions him as the NDC’s parliamentary candidate for the Ayawaso East by-election, a key contest in the Greater Accra Region, as the party seeks to retain the seat.

The NDC has reiterated its commitment to protecting the integrity of its internal democratic processes and ensuring that all aspirants adhere strictly to party rules and electoral guidelines.
