The University of Ghana has urged students to suspend a planned demonstration following discussions between the organisers and university management over concerns including accommodation.
In a notice dated Wednesday, October 28, the Office of the Dean of Student Affairs said the Dean, Professor Rosina Kyerematen, had engaged the organisers and assured them that management was committed to addressing their concerns.
The university said the discussions covered students’ immediate, medium-term and long-term needs, including accommodation challenges.
“The Dean of Student Affairs has subsequently engaged the group on their concerns and assured them of Management’s commitment to addressing the immediate, middle-term, and long-term needs of students; including accommodation,” the notice stated.
Following the engagement, the organisers were advised to suspend the planned demonstration while further discussions with management and other stakeholders continue.
The university also reminded students and student groups to follow established procedures when presenting grievances, in line with regulations governing junior members of the university.
It added that the Office of Student Affairs was working with other university units, including the Student Financial Aid Office and the Careers and Counselling Directorate, to provide welfare support.
The university said the efforts aimed to address students’ needs and promote a peaceful learning environment as engagements over their concerns continue.
