Two individuals have picked nomination forms to contest the Assin North Constituency parliamentary primary on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

They are Charles Opoku and Frederick Freeman Amoah-Kyei.

The party’s internal election comes after Parliament declared the Assin North seat vacant following a Supreme Court ruling on the eligibility of James Gyakye Quayson to occupy the seat.

The Electoral Commission has since scheduled the by-election for Tuesday, June 27, 2023.

At the close of nominations on June 1, 2023, only Charles Opoku and Frederick Freeman Amoah-Kyei had picked the forms to contest the primary.

The NPP has set June 7, 2023, as the date to elect a parliamentary candidate for the Assin North constituency by-election, following the opening of nominations on May 31, 2023.

During the process, Kelvin Kyeremateng, the Special Assistant of aspiring candidate Charles Opoku, revealed that Mr Opoku’s notable achievements positioned him above his peers and made him a strong contender for securing the seat for the NPP.

He expressed optimism that Mr Opoku would bring a much-needed victory to the party.

Meanwhile, Frank Acheampong, who picked the form on behalf of Frederick Freeman Amoah-Kyei, emphasized Mr Amoah-Kyei’s years of faithful service to the party.

He expressed hope that the delegates would elect him to secure the seat for the NPP.

Whoever emerges winner of NPP’s race will battle it out with James Quayson.
