Two persons have lost their lives, and 21 others have been injured as a bus transporting members of the Second Chance Church met with an accident.
The tragic event occurred on the Assin Fosu–Kumasi highway on the evening of January 1, 2025.
Reports indicate that the incident took place around 9 p.m. when a bus, displaying Methodist Wesley Church branding and carrying members of the Believers Worship Centre (Second Chance), was returning from a 31st Night crossover service in Kumasi to Assin Fosu and Breman Asikuma.
As the bus approached Assin Dansame, it collided with a crowd that was participating in a street parade.
Among the deceased are a 21-year-old apprentice and a student from Sunyani Technical University, known as Maame Yaa, along with another individual, both of whom reportedly died at the scene.
Twenty-one others suffered varying degrees of injuries and were promptly transported to several hospitals in the region for medical care.
The accident has incited anger among local residents, leading some frustrated youths to vandalize the bus, resulting in its total destruction. Law enforcement officials were dispatched to the area to restore order.
ASP Wonder Lumor, the Central North Regional MTTD Commander, confirmed the incident and stated that an investigation has been initiated to ascertain the cause of the crash.
