Six coronavirus positive Nigeriens escape from isolation centre in Oti Region
Six Nigeriens who allegedly tested positive for coronavirus have escaped from their holding centre at Kadjebi in the Oti Region.
TV3 News reported that the six disappeared from a four-bedroom house they were being held.
Reports indicate that the Nigeriens were part of 37 commuters who were arrested on April 17 and 18 in the Kadjebi District.
A joint security operation stopped the attempt to use one of the country’s border posts that connects Kadjebi to Togo. But luck eluded them when they were arrested.
Joy News reported that they were returning from Nkawkaw in the Eastern Region where their mainstay – polishing finger and toes nails – was no longer fetching them much.
The police is on a manhunt for the six.
The District Chief Executive (DCE) of Kadzebi, Maxwell Asiedu, believed the fled Nigeriens were still in the area as they left their belongings in their rooms
The police officer on duty reportedly left his duty post to buy a grocery in the area when the escapees took their chance.
Oti coronavirus cases
The Oti Region is one of two regions to have recorded cases, bringing the number of regions with COVID-19 cases to 12, according to the Ghana Health Service data released on Friday.
While the Oti Region confirmed 13 cases, Western-North had one.
This is the third time foreign nationals who tested positive for COVID-19 in Ghana have escaped.
One female Guinean who was quarantined with nine other people from the West African country escaped and is yet to be found.

A Nigerian man also vanished when news of his positive status was announced to him in the Upper East Region, but the police in the region announced that he has been arrested.
