Police Officers in Bono interdicted over bribery video

The Bono Regional Police Command has interdicted several officers caught on video allegedly taking bribes from motorists near the Ghana–Côte d’Ivoire border.

A statement from Chief Inspector Thomas Akeelah, the Public Relations Officer of the Command, confirmed that the officers have been identified and removed from duty while investigations are underway.

He noted that the probe aims to ensure transparency and fairness.

In the video, which has been widely shared on social media, police officers are seen stopping riders and engaging in what appear to be cash exchanges.

At one point, an officer jokingly asks a motorist why he did not buy him a bottle of Coca-Cola, as others nearby laugh. Another officer tells a rider, “I’m standing under the hot sun. I was sent here; I didn’t come on my own,” before allegedly accepting money.

In another part of the footage, a motorist hands what looks like a GH¢100 note to an officer, who then gives him GH¢50 as change and jokingly promises to issue a receipt later.

Chief Inspector Akeelah said the Command is determined to maintain public trust and hold any officer who breaches professional conduct accountable.

The Command has assured residents that efforts are being made to restore confidence in law enforcement in the region as the investigation continues.
